Biography

Keith H. Reed

 

A celebration of life service for

The Rev. Keith H. Reed, 47, was held at noon

Saturday, June 30, 2012 on the deck overlooking

the water at the Harbor Point Sub-division Clubhouse

off FM 356 east of Trinity.

 

The Rev. Leroy Brown officiated.

 

The Rev. Reed died Saturday, May 26,

following a heart attack.

 

He was born July 27, 1964 in Lake Charles, La.

the fifth of six children born to Landry Joseph Reed and

Theresa Annabelle Fontenot Reed.

 

The Rev. Reed attended and graduated from

Westlake High School in May 1983.

 

He also graduated in the summer of 1985 from

San Jacinto Junior College in Pasadena after studying transportation and truck driving.

He then went on to drive a truck for a variety of trucking companies, doing what he loved to do and at which he excelled.

 While working as a truck driver, he traveled through all 48 contiguous United States, plus five Canadian provinces.

Keith’s dream of owning his own truck was realized

in 1996, and he always owned at least one truck

from that point forward.

 

The Rev. Reed was also a member

of the 356 Volunteer Fire Department.

 

He married the love of his life, Amanda

on Dec. 17, 1988. She joined him in his truck

and for the next 23 years they traveled the

nation’s highways side by side as a team.

 

In 1996 they started a home for special needs cats

called Greater East Texas Compassionate Humane Animal Rescue Transport and Sanctuary (G.E.T.C.H.A.R.T.S)

which continues to operate to this day.

 

The Rev. Reed was very passionate about animal rescue

during and after natural disasters, and trained and

certified with a variety of animal rescue groups.

 

His love of animals led him to complete his

certification for Texas Animal Control Officer in 1996

 

His compassion for fellow humans led him to complete his Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in October of 2010

and his love of God led him to become an ordained minister

on September 25, 2010.

 

The Rev. Reed was known as an outgoing

uplifting person who always had a pleasant

kind word and was quick to grin and laugh.

 

He loved bright colors, especially tie-dye shirts.

 

He loved cruising, having completed more than 30

cruises in his lifetime. He also enjoyed all types of travel

cooking and listening to audio books while driving.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents;his

maternal aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Robert Vines

Two brothers-in-law, Herbert J. Thibodeaux Sr.

and Charlie Hoffpauir; A nephew, Brennan Kyle Reed

and a cousin, Ricky Vines.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, the Rev. Amanda Reed

four brothers and their spouses, Andy and Tricia Reed

Randy Reed, Ronald and Paulette Reed and Paul and Sheila Reed; a sister, Anthonette (Toni) Thibodeaux Hoffpauir; 12 nieces and nephews; a number of other relatives

and all of his friends and “furry children” in the sanctuary.
